The FUTURE of the beloved Hymns of the Orthodox Church is in the hands of our YOUTH. The Byzantine Youth Choir sings the Divine Liturgy every Sunday at the first service, and at some of the special services during Great and Holy Lent, notably, the Akathist Hymn and the Aspile at the Heretismi Service and the Lamentations. They lend their voices to the Challenge Liturgy and the Christmas Pageants. Annually, the Byzantine Youth Choir celebrates the Divine Lituirgy with His Grace Bishop Andonios of Phasiane and visits the residents at St. Michael's Home in Yonkers. For the first time in the history of the Archdiocesan District Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians, 50 members of Archangel Michael's Byzantine YOUTH Choir and ByzanTEEN Choir sang ten inspirational pieces, which included the Sacred Hymns of the Season, at the Federation 2005 Celebrations of Musicz Christmas Concert. A highlight for the Byzantine Youth Choir of Archangel Michael was celebrating the 2004 Hierarchical Liturgy with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios at the 37th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress. Additionally, the Youth and Teen Choir participates in Greek Night at the Harry Chain Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park, the annual Greek Independence Day Parade, the Philoptochos Christmas Luncheon Fundraiser, the Sunday School Moving-Up Program and the Divine Liturgy at St. George Tropeoforos on 54th St. in Manhattan. The Choir also takes an annual trip to see a Broadway Show. The Youth Choir is currently in the process of editing a CD, the sale of which will raise money for the Church. |
