The Archangel Michael Preschool was founded in the summer of 1996 by the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church to provide an enriching social and academic environment to pre-kindergarten children of the Eastern Orthodox faith. A variety of structured activities is offered each day that prepares the child for successful entry into elementary school. A variety of age-appropriate instruction is provided by an experienced staff to ensure a rewarding learning experience. Activities and lessons offered include: Reading Readiness, Language Enrichment, Conversational Greek, Mathematical Concepts, Science, Basics of Computer, Arts & Crafts, Music Enrichment, Dance and Creative Expression, Introduction to Religion, Outdoor Play Activities and Snacktime. Formal conferences are held twice a year. They are designed to provide parents with the opportunity to discuss their child's development. In addition, the Preschool welcomes parental visits anytime during the school year. Children participate in school trips to sites such as the local library, the LI Children's Museum, the Science Museum in Manhasset, the local Fire Department, a pumpkin farm, and Nassau Coliseum for special events geared to preschool children. The children and staff participate in the Greek Independence Day Parade every year. As needed, staff members cooperate with external professionals such as physical and occupational therapists to work with any student with special needs. The Preschool places great emphasis on the health and safety of each child. For this reason it is necessary to have medical records on file before the beginning of each school year. All faculty meet the New York State requirements for preschool educational instruction. Faculty include teachers who are certified in Early Childhood Education in addition to holding licenses in Greek Bilingual and English as a Second Language. The Preschool hosts an annual Dinner Dance, as well as, a Halloween Fundraiser and an Easter Fundraiser. For more information, please contact Linda Alimaras at the School Office at 516-621-8222. |
