Announcements

Click here for an important message from Fr. Dennis about the Capital Campaign. As we reported at the last General Assembly meeting, construction will be suspended when the exterior of our church is completed.  Once the remaining necessary funds are raised, construction of the interior of the church will resume.  The Brick Campaign fundraiser is off to a good start, and the organization of the Main Event is well underway.  Volunteers and new ideas are always welcome. If you have not yet made a Capital Campaign pledge or if you would like to increase your pledge, please contact the church office.  Donations can be made by check or credit card.

The plans for the MAIN EVENT, scheduled for Friday, November 12th at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall are well underway.  This benefit concert, in celebration of  “The Hellenic Thread in the Tapestry of American Culture”, will feature George Dalaras.  A new composition by Christos Hatzis, entitled “Pistevo” (Credo, in English) will be performed for the first time.  The accompanying City Music Cleveland Orchestra will be conducted by the renowned Alexandros Myrat.  The website, hellenicthread.org providing further details as well as a link for ticket purchases, will be up and running very  shortly.  If you would like to serve on one of the committees, please contact Tammy Ashley at (516) 965-3431.  Sponsorship, underwriting and journal opportunities are also available.

The Archangel Michael Philoptochos Retreat, at St. Ignatius Retreat House, 251 Searingtown Rd., Manhasset, is scheduled for Friday, September 24, from 9:30am-1:30pm.  The charge is $60 per person and includes breakfast and lunch.  Come relax and unwind at this retreat.  For reservations, please contact Penny Zangas at (516)869-1071. GOYA’s ice-cream social will kick-off the new 2010-11 GOYA calendar year on Monday, September 27th from 7:30- 9:30pm.  Archangel Michael GOYA will also be hosting the inter-GOYA kick-off dance on Friday, October 1st from 7:30-11:30 pm at the Archangel Michael Church. In August our families will receive registration forms for GOYA and for the basketball and soccer programs. All registrations, applications and monies will be collected at our ice-cream social.  Please note that each team roster will be signed and submitted to the appropriate league only when all of the team players have handed in their registration fees in full and parents should be stewards in good standing for 2010.  Please be advised that due to an increase in insurance costs and registration paid to the league, there will be an increase in GOYA and sports registration fees.  As more information becomes available, it will be provided to you in the letter that will be sent out to all GOYA parents in August.

JOY/HOPE will be hosting its Registration Picnic on Sunday, September 19th at Manorhaven Park. If you are interested in a filling positions on the Executive Board, please contact Mariann Matarangas or Susan Cavounis at  hopejoyarchangelmichael@gmail.com.

Throughout April and May, our parish hosted 7 Focus Groups with over 100 parishioners participating in discussions about the health of our Archangel Michael Church.  This was a terrific show of support for this project!  Thank you to all who participated. We are in the process of working through all of the comments and discussion points that were raised in all of the focus groups.  Over the summer, we will be meeting with our Church Health coach, Fr. Jonathan Ivanoff, to see how we can best improve the overall health of our Archangel Michael community.  Look for updates soon! There will be many more opportunities to get involved and we welcome your participation and support.  If you have any questions, please contact Eleni Sfiroudis at 516-767-9548.

Registration for Preschool for the 2010-2011 school year will be on-going throughout the summer.  For more information please call the school at 516-944-3184.
